Jon's Pick

St. Feuillien Saison

This is a 750ml cork finished belgian style Saison/Farmhouse ale. For me, this is the perfect style of beer for spring. This beer pours a light caramel color with a solid two and a half inches of head with the typical retention of a Belgian made beer. The aroma brings light notes of candi sugar, ripe fruit, clove, earthy hops, and that unmistakable belgian yeast character. The flavor starts off sweet with a ripe fruit and complex sugar character that segues into an earthy, floral hop flavor. It then ends dry, with a peppery finish that doesn't linger. The drinkability is what makes this beer such a great choice for a mild, sunny spring day. Although there is quite a bit of complexity, which comes with Belgian ales, it is still light, approachable, and refreshing. Add to the fact that this beer pairs up well with light, fresh foods, including white fish and shellfish, and you have a great spring day beer.

Brewer's Biography

Joe Lushing from Olde Burnside Brewing Company

Joe came to us six years ago as an assistant brewer. When our old brewer Tim left to go back to the corporate world, Joe was a natural choice to keep on as head brewer. Joe has extensive home brewing experience and has translated that, along with his love of all styles of beer, into brewing some of the best beers available anywhere.

Joe has lived throughout the US, but we've noticed he always settled where good beer was available; Colorado and Vermont were two of his previous addresses. In the few off days we give Joe, he likes to see live music, do outdoor activities with his children such as camping, canoeing, and archery, and drinking a wide variety of craft beer.

Joe, along with renowned home brewer Paul Zocco, created the very popular Penny Weiz Ale and Joe has been tweaking the recipe for the Father Christmas Highland Ale for a few years and has turned it into one of the most in demand seasonal beers in the industry.

Joe's next project is rumored to be a Scottish Pale Ale. What is it? He won't say, but it's sure to be outstanding.
